Flights to Bimini, Bahamas

Just fifty miles from the East of Miami, Bimini is made up of a group of Islands located in the westernmost end of the Bahamas. Hardly two thousand people inhabit the area.

It has three different islands - North Bimini, South Bimini, and East Bimini, not sure what they’ve got against the West. But based on the reviews, the three islands are more than enough for your vacation needs.

The reason for its popularity could be the isle’s closeness to the Florida state of the United States. Many Americans frequent Bimini on a boat to fish or enjoy the nightlife, perhaps both.

So if you’re down to explore Bimini by delving into its history at The Bimini Road and the wreck of SS Sapona, relaxing in one of Bimini’s many breathtaking beaches, or slurping down a Bahamian fish stew in a local restaurant, this article is for you.

How to find Bimini Flights

Since Bimini is the westernmost part of the Bahamas (a vacation dream with over 700 islands!), it’s no surprise that the tiny isle has a single airport (with another one in the making). The island is just a half an hour journey from Florida, while it takes an hour to visit the Bahamas capital Nassau.

The Bimini International Airport is located on its South Island. It is just a simple ferry ride away from the North Island. The airport is a compact concrete building that caters majorly to three different regions - Florida, Nassau, and G.Bahama.

The district manager manages this publicly-owned airport, and it has only a few airlines to run through it. The silver airways (the domestic airway of United airlines) has flights to Bimini, the Bahamas, from the Fort Lauderdale international airport in Florida.

In case you’re looking for connecting flights to Bimini, Western air offers you flights from Nassau International Airport to the south Bimini airport. In case you find this option inconvenient, another option would be to arrive by a sea-plane.

Looking for a Little More Luxury?

If you can afford it, charter planes are an excellent way to fly into the South Bimini Airport. Island Air Charters and RMG Flight Services, and Pioneer Air Service are working out of the Fort Lauderdale Airport, Florida.

Opa Locka Executive airport has some Noble Air flights, while Tamiami Executive Airport in Miami offers charter planes to Hughes Flying Services and Luxair.

Northern Island is a little more fun, with delicious food and exotic drinks all around. If you want to head straight to where all the fun is, try traveling on a seaplane. Tropic ocean and Miami seaplane and charters are two agencies offering daily seaplanes to North Bimini Island.

Bimini Flight prices

A single premium flight from the Fort Lauderdale Airport (Florida) to the Bimini International Airport (BIM) could cost a maximum of US$ 200. However, cheap plane tickets to Bimini, the Bahamas offered by silver airways, usually cost around a hundred bucks.

The duration of these flights is around forty minutes max.

Tourist Attractions in Bimini, Bahamas

  • The mystery of Bimini Road

The Bimini wall (or the Bimini road) is a spectacular underwater rock formation on the North Island. This fifty-mile structure, running northeast and southwest, consists of various rectangular limestone blocks.

The Bimini Road is often assumed to be a wall, pier, or road. However, there is not enough evidence to support these conclusions.

It was found in 1968 when three people who were diving in the North Bimini island came in contact with the wall. There have been numerous visits to the linear structure in an effort to study its origin.

Other than the Bimini wall, two other unexplained structures can be found parallel to it. To some mystery enthusiasts, the Bimini Road is the gateway to the lost city of Atlantis. We’re not sure how true this claim is, but it does sound exciting and fascinating.

  • SS Sapona

This shipwreck was once a cargo steamer that was found in Bimini during a hurricane in 1926. It is visible over the water and is also a popular diving site for the locals. Tourists love the school of tropical fishes attracted to the site, thinking it to be an artificial reef.

Evidence of the ship bombing (and submerging) can be found in the concrete left behind on the ship’s hull.

The area around the ship is excellent for scuba diving and snorkeling enthusiasts. The owner of the vessel was Carl Fisher, who bought it after World War II for a minuscule portion of the original price.

  • Bimini Bull run

Are you a big fan of sharks? At the Bimini bull run, you can look at the Bull sharks up close and personal. They’ll place you inside a glass cage, described as ’very, very safe’ by some reviewers, and then, you’re free to see the bull sharks cruising around you.

Home to Caribbean bull sharks, this reef is a favorite activity for less ‘adventurous’ travelers looking to find a place for some underwater sightseeing.

  • Rainbow Reef

With colorful coral rocks, thousands of fishes, and shallow enough for snorkeling and scuba diving, the rainbow reef is brimming with tourists who’ve just discovered the hidden gem. A tour of the rainbow reef is probably one of the cheapest experiences you can find in Bimini.

But as the reviewers say, don’t let the fantastic deal fool you. Rainbow reef can be a great experience for novice sea adventurers.

  • Bimini Big game resort

People getting off the Bimini flights often find themselves in the Bimini Big game resort. While there are guests praising the interior and spacious rooms of the hotel, there is one thing in Bimini Big that makes it different from any other resort in the area - a hammerhead shark dive.

You can see these stunning, graceful animals from up close, and if that’s not enough to convince you, they reportedly have a great bar and grill. At this point, what else could one possibly want?

Food to eat in Bimini

For some people, whether they have flights to Bimini, New York, London, or Tokyo - one thing matters the most; the food. Here is a list of all the delicious, lip-smacking dishes we could find in Bimini -

  • Conch Salad

The conch salad is refreshing and made of fresh ingredients like raw chopped conch, onions, tomatoes, and garlic sauce. Joe’s and Stuart’s are two places serving the conch and lobster salad daily, so do check them out.

  • Bimini Bread

The conch and lobster salad is usually eaten with the famous Bikini bread - made out of coconut and honey. It is a local favorite and brings out the savory taste when eaten with spiced salad.

  • Fried Fish Breakfast

It is served especially at the My three daughter restaurant. The local deli is famous for various fish dishes like fish fries and other Bahamian seafood. It is a little pricey, so we suggest you choose accordingly.

  • Fried lobster

Available at C.J’s Deli with some good local beer, fried lobsters are usually served with some beverage and a plate of grouper sandwiches. The Deli is located on a pristine white sand beach, and thus, you can enjoy the food and the view.

Best season to visit Bimini

Mid-December to mid-April is most definitely the best season to visit the island. While you do not have to worry about how cold or hot the island can get (as it rarely falls below 60 degrees), you may have to worry about the Atlantic hurricane season.

Starting June, the hurricane season arrives and usually stays till December. Since the island has many outdoor activities to enjoy, choosing to go during the off-season (May onwards) will give you little chance to have fun due to the island’s heavy rainy season.

However, during the peak season, tourists pour in heavily. It could lead to significant increments in hotel prices. Hence, we’ll suggest you plan according to your budget - it turns out beaches are always beautiful.

Bimini is undoubtedly a beautiful vacation destination. Not only will it offer you the best beaches and food, but it will also soothe the soul of the adventurer inside you.  With the right travel plan and good weather, it could probably become your best island experience ever!

So slurp down some coconut water with Bimini bread and book your flights to Bimini, Bahamas soon!
